I'm happy to resume my place on second reading for debate on Bill 4, the Park Amendment Act. When I left off yesterday, I was referring to what Bill 4 does and some examples of concerns around what the bill is proposing.

I'm very pleased to take my place in second reading debate of Bill 4, the Park Amendment Act, 2014. I'm especially pleased because in Stikine we have a large number of parks. We have over 50 provincial parks or eco-reserves. It possibly is a reflection of the fact that Stikine is the largest constituency in the province.

On the heels of the Winter Olympics, where many members of this Legislature highlighted their constituents' achievements, I have news of another high-level international performance by a resident of Stikine.

This government speaks of a violence-free B.C. in their throne speech and specifically mentioned safety and First Nations. Yet their words ring hollow when we see no new supports in the budget for men who voluntarily want to break the cycle of violence in themselves and their families.

The last time I spoke about a hammer in this chamber, it wasn't about the need for more trades training in the north or the final rock in a curling match, although it did have something to do with ice. It was just about three years ago, and the hammer I was referring to was the only B.C.-born player starting for the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins.
